Barbara studied pharmacy at St. John’s University and in 1989 earned a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. As a registered pharmacist she worked in various well known alternative pharmacies around Manhattan and was one of the first pharmacists in the City to work with and compound Bio-Identical hormone replacement therapy and is considered an expert in this holistic modality.
It was while working in various alternative holistic pharmacies that Barbara began to notice that many of her clients had little understanding of their illnesses, bodies and medication. In addition, many of them took supplements randomly in the hopes of benefiting from the promised miracles touted by the manufacturer. What she saw was people on a variety of medications, spending hundreds of dollars on supplements that they didn’t need, nor were benefiting from, all the while partaking of the modern American diet, growing sicker and more toxic despite everything they were doing.
In December 2004, Barbara was invited to be the Director of Nutrition for the Fratellone Group for Integrative Cardiology and Medicine, counseling each patient on proper diet and supplement use for the management, treatment and prevention of heart disease, as well as many other health concerns, including cancer, neurological disorders, diabetes and immune dysfunction. It was this experience that set her on the path of medical nutrition, using optimal diet and supplementation to treat and manage disease.
A qualified Yoga instructor, she developed the Lifestyle Nutrients Workshop Series™ in 2002. This series of workshops which combines yoga and nutrition to target specific health concerns including; Weight Management, Stress Management and Transition Through Menopause.
