Therapeutic Nutrition for Gastrointestinal Issues
Most people are surprised to learn that there is a connection between their digestion and seasonal allergies. Even more surprising is the fact that emotional health is tied to the health of the gut as well. When a client tells me that they are on an antidepressant, I tell them that I also bet they have one of the following conditions: Irritable bowel Syndrome or another gastrointestinal disturbance; a skin condition, or allergies. They look at me like I’m a psychic and wonder how I could possibly know. The truth is, nearly everything that can go wrong in your body, in the developing world, has to do with diet and the quality of foods you consume along with how well your body digests and absorbs the nutrients found in food and then, elimination. In fact, there is a strong connection between the health and integrity of your gastrointestinal health and the entire body!
In underdeveloped countries, illness arises from a lack of good nutrition. In these countries where there is a scarcity of foods, you will find diseases that come from a lack of a particular nutrient or a family of nutrients. In the developed world, our diseases come, primarily, from overeating. We are afflicted with the consequences of abundance.
Managing diet goes beyond the use of food to look good. It is a vital part of your overall health and longevity, as nearly all conditions that weaken and damage the system have their origins in diet and the consequence of poor dietary choices. We, as a society, too often ignore the signs our bodies send to us in the form of heartburn, reflux, arthritic pain, allergies or skin conditions, in order to continue to eat to our hearts delight, thinking, erroneously, that only our waistline will suffer. What is compromised as well is our ability to digest these foods properly in order to energize and restore the system, eventually leading to symptoms, the common language of the body.
Getting your gastrointestinal health in order will deliver the rewards of a body that feels vital and is able to restore its balance through homeostasis. Not only can you finally be free of heartburn, reflux, constipation or diarrhea, but you can also begin to contribute to your health and longevity by being mindful of your diet and digestion.
After years of doing this work, gastrointestinal illnesses and imbalances have become my specialty. I have seen people who, after 30+ years of Irritable Bowel Syndrome, had a cessation of symptoms within 24 hours from merely a change in diet. I have seen anxiety and depression improve and have witnessed arthritic pain vanish as an added benefit from the same dietary changes. The body is a truly incredible healing system. It is designed to work towards your health and longevity, not against it. All it needs is the proper care.
Let me help point you in the direction of great health!
